Why Hire a Professional

Since I started working on my own home, I have learned that there are some things you should leave to the professionals. Most recently I learned that ceiling texture matching is a lot harder than it looks. I tried several different products, googled techniques, and scraped and scrapped all the work because it was just not right. Working on a ceiling is a pain in the neck on its own, but having to start over multiple times is just disheartening. There was a point where I told myself “I don’t need a professional, I can do this!” but I learned that there is a reason they are professionals. I called them and they had it done in 4 hours, and it looked perfect.

Experience and skills

When starting a new project, especially a home renovation project, most aspects of the project are going to require a certain set of skills to accomplish the desired finish you are looking for. Sometimes, a homeowner can reach that goal on their own, but most of the time, it requires many years of experience to have the level of skill to reach that finished look. For my texturing project, the drywallers who came to my house had the experience and the skills I was lacking. So not only did they do the job in a few hours, they were able to provide the seamless look I was going for because of their many years of experience.

Proper tools and materials

Professionals not only have the experience and skills to do the job, but they also have the tools and knowledge of materials to complete the project. If you are facing a project that you have zero tools for, hiring a professional to do the job could end up saving you money. If you are looking into learning the skill and doing it more than one time, then purchasing the tools may be beneficial but for one project, buying all the tools seems like a waste of money.

Saves time and stress

A big factor that not a lot of people talk about when taking on a home project is all the time and stress that comes along with it. Living in a project is overwhelming. Staring at the unfinish work can be more stressful than actually doing the project. Hiring a professional will save both time and the stress involved. After struggling and struggling with my ceiling texture, I was so worn down and defeated. I knew that after all the time I spent working on, googling advice, and watching YouTube videos could have been better spent on something else.

Produce better results

Going along with experience and skills, hiring a professional to do the work produces better results. Depending on the scope of the project, hiring someone who has the experience needed for the job is a game changer. The professionals are trained to catch details that someone who is doing it for the first time might miss.

Could save you money in the long run

There have been times where I took on a project that I thought I could do myself. It started off great and I was full of optimism. The start of the project went smoothly, not one complaint. However, after getting deep into said project, several errors occurred. These ranged from miscalculated cuts and deformities in the boards to stain colors being wrong and the final piece being crooked. All these errors sent me back to the hardware store to get different materials or tools to somehow help the project go more smoothly than it had been. After it is all said and done, hiring someone to do the project for me would have saved me money in materials, gas, and tools that I may not use again.

They clean up after themselves

If you have ever done a DIY project inside your home, then you know how messy they can be. Some projects where sanding, sawing, stripping, or any combination of the three leave a thin layer of dust and debris all throughout your home. Even weeks after a project is completed, I am still finding areas where cleaning is needed and it’s not like I am a slob or do a poor job cleaning. The stuff just gets everywhere! When you hire a professional, they not only clean up after themselves, saving your back and hands from doing it yourself, but they also do the proper preparation beforehand to make sure that the worksite is contained to the area they are working in. For example, the guys who came in and textured my ceiling used so much plastic to protect the rest of my home while they worked on the key areas.

Conclusion

To sum it all up, professionals bring skills and experience that produce better results, can save you money, time, and stress in the long run, have all the required materials and tools to do the job and properly prepare for the job so clean up does not last for weeks. There are plenty of reasons to hire a professional when it comes to doing a home project, but these are a few that I have encountered from my own personal experience.
